- Aug 19, 2016 Default network printer randomly defaults to the adobe PDF printer. Switched the default printer back to the network printer and performed a reboot. The network printer remains as the default. At some point of the day it goes back to Adobe PDF. Had a Microsoft support dude to look at the issue, but he has no idea either. A few of my pilot users has also experience the same issue.
- Choose Start Control Panel Printers And Faxes. Click Add a Printer. Click Next in the Add Printer Wizard, and select Local Printer Attached To This Computer. Deselect Automatically Detect And Install My Plug And. Select Use The Following Port, and choose any of the LPT ports in.
This is a tough one, and to score the points the solution must survive the PC being rebooted and still maintain the settings. The settings are listed below. We'll accept a solution that eliminates all but one of the settings (since our current environment requires the users to make one settings change everytime they print.) Additionally, we're looking for a solution that requires zero user interaction to make it work. We should be able to remote load this on the workstations and be done with any setting that the solution encompasses.
Here is the current process the user's have to go through to make this work - simplification is the key.
a. Open the print dialogue
b. make sure the following checkboxes are UNchecked:
i. Shrink oversize pages
ii. Expand small pages
iii. Auto-rotate
c. click on properties - select Layout tab.
d. check 'Flip on long edge'
e. still on the layout tab, click on the 'advanced' button
f. set paper size to legal
g. close properties dialogue
h. from print dialogue (still open) click on 'advanced' button
i. check 'Choose output by PDF page size'
Ideally, we'd like to be able to set these in the registry, but we will look at any valid solution.

Like most programs, Adobe Acrobat looks to the system defaults to decide where to send documents that it needs to print. This makes sense because the default printer is the one that you designated as your preferred choice. However, sometimes you need to use a different printer. For example, if your default printer is a workgroup black and white laser and you need to print color copies of a presentation for a client, you will probably need to send the job to your color laser printer. Adobe Acrobat makes it simple to print to a non-default printer when you need to without changing your system's defaults for other times.
Step 1
Open Adobe Acrobat and then open the file that you need to print.
Step 3
Select the non-default printer that you want to use from the pull-down menu labeled 'Printer.'
Step 4
Click the 'Print' button to send the job to the printer.
